The Black River

There are few places left in the world where you can see a forest never cut by the tools of man.  The Black River is one of those places. Lined with Bald Cypress trees estimated to be as old as 2000 years, this is a unique and enchanting ecosystem. It is no surprise that such a wild and beautiful place is also home to a wide range and large number of Animals. Join us on a trip
to our favorite place.

Tour length:  about 6 hours plus shuttle and drive time

Masonboro Island

Seven miles of pristine barrier island beach. If that doesn’t interest you, how about:  thousands of acres of dunes and salt marsh, dozens of migratory birds you may have never seen before, or sea turtles and dolphins? When locals want to have a great day at the beach or get away from the crowds, they come here. Our tour to this local treasure begins away from the crowds, traffic and parking meters at Wrightsville beach. Let’s go!

Tour length:  3 and 4 hours
Group size:  2-8 people
Tour cost:  $65.00/person and $80.00/person

Shelter Creek

‘Blackwater’ at it’s finest. Shelter creek is another great place to experience this unique
North Carolina ecosystem. ‘Blackwater’, is a commonly used term used to describe the tea colored, slow moving rivers and creeks of the Carolina coastal plain.  These rivers and creeks absorb a large amount of tannic acid from the thick forests that line their banks and this makes the water look like tea. Find out more about what makes these places so special by joining us
for a tour.

Tour length: 3hrs., 4hrs. and 4hrs. to the N. E. Cape Fear River (requires a shuttle).
Group size:  2-8 people
Tour cost:  $70.00/person, $85.00/person and $90.00/person

Rice and Town Creek

Being our shortest and easiest blackwater tour are not the only things that make this
tour different. Rice has almost no current. This small difference makes for a dramatic difference in the Flora. While most blackwater forests are dominated by Bald Cypress, Oak and Gum trees, Rice’s forest is made up largely of Pond Cypress, Slippery Elm and burl blighted Gum. There are also many more species of water plant, fungi and wildflower. So, if you’re deterred by the length and difficulty of our other blackwater tours, or if your interests are more floral in nature, come paddle Rice and Town.

Tour Length:  3 and 4 hours plus drive time (no shuttle)
Group size:  2-8 people
Tour cost:  $70.00/person and $85.00/person

Cape Fear Islands Exploration

The Lower Cape Fear River is steeped in history and culture. It is also very broad and sprinkled with islands. These islands are both natural and manmade. In some ways the
manmade islands are more interesting than the natural ones. They are dredge spoil islands
and most have been there for decades. The dredge material is from the bottom of the Cape
Fear and is mostly Marl, a type of fossil filled limestone. Beach combing here is unlike any
other place. Fossils, shark teeth, shells, driftwood and human artifacts are abundant. We offer a range of tours on the Cape Fear as well as some of our advanced skills courses.

Tour length:  3, 4 and 6 hour
Group size:  2-8 people
Tour cost:  $65.00/person, $80.00/person, and $95.00/person
